Abstract

========== A ship needs an added power when it
is sailing through a seaway
.
The reason behind this is
because when a ship sails through a seaway, the ships experienced a heave and pitch motion
that results in added wave resistance
,
added power
, and speed loss
.
The added wave resistance
is calculated w
ith Havelock Theory, Gerritsma & Beukelman, and Salvesen method which the
highest results for the three method is in sea state 6, with 90 heading angle. The highest added
wave resistance result for Havelock Theory is 33.33 KN, for Salvesen is 24.73 KN, and
for
Gerritsma & Beukelman method is 45.89 KN. The highest RMS result between Havelock
Theory and Gerritsma & Beukelman method is 0,969 which happened in sea state 2 with 180
heading angle, between Havelock Theory and Salvesen is 0,932 which happened in se
a state 2
with 135 heading angle, and for Gerritsma & Beukelman and Salvesen method is 2.771 which
happened in sea state 2 with 180 heading angle.
The calculation for added power is using EHP
(Effective Horse Power). The highest result of added power for S
alvesen, Gerritsma &
Beukelman, and Havelock Theory method
happened in sea state 6 with heading angle 90. The
highest result of added power for salvesen method is 381.6 kW. For Gerritsma & Beukelman
method the highest result of added power is 708.1 kW and
the highest result of added power
for Havelock Theory method is 514.4 kW
.
After the added power is calculated then the speed
loss could be obtained. The highest speed loss for the three method is in sea state 6 with 90
heading angle. The highest result for
Salvesen is 0.2053 knot, for
Gerritsma & Beukelman is
1.1328 knot, and for Havelock Theory is 1.0009 knot.
