Abstract

=================== Ferroresonance is a phenomenon that usually occurs in a series circuit between transformer and capacitor. This circuit will cause oscillating overvoltage on the transformer when triggered by transient events. Transient events such as short circuit, switching operation, and lightning, this triggers a sudden transition of the system to adversely affect transformers and systems. In this final project, the design of ferroresonance testing module is used to obtain the physical characteristics of ferroresonance. The design begins with the selection of capacitance range with Rudenburg's graphical method approach based on the transformer magnetization curve. The module is directly implemented on a single phase 110 V transformer type of core H and M. Voltage source variation, capacitance value variation and configuration variation are performed on this test. The ferroresonance response at the transformer voltage will see the harmonic and large spectrum of THD to classify the emerging feroresonance modes. The results show that the fundamental mode dominates the ferroresonance form that appears in this test, with the largest THD of 26.55 % owned by the H core transformer with a 10 uF capacitor in the series configuration. While subharmonic mode appears in the parallel-series configuration (Cseries 70 uF and Cshunt 30 uF) in the core transfomator M with a maximum THD of 34.99 %.
