Abstract

===========================================================================================================
One of the earliest causes of defective insulation winding is the presence of short-circuit current that occurs between turns (turn-to-turn) on a winding. The short-circuited currents will create hot spots which, if left unchecked, will cause failure between winding, between phases and between windings with ground. Surge test is a test that can detect the failure of isolation between turns by using surge voltage injected in the stator motor windings. In this final project, it was conducted surge test to induction motor with rotor insertion in normal condition, turn faults state, and addition of resistor at one of turn fault. The results of test data of surge test obtained were analyzed based on zero crossing point method. This method looks at the point at which the surge voltage changes from a positive value to a negative value and vice versa or when the surge voltage reaches a 0V voltage after it is released. The zero crossing point value at the turn fault and the addition of the resistor is compared with the zero crossing point value during normal circumstances to determine the percentage of errors produced. The results obtained from the turn fault variation are, the greater the value of turn fault used, the error percentage of zero crossing point tend to be greater. While the results obtained from the variation of the resistor are, the greater the value of resistor used, the smaller error percentage of zero crossing point produced.
