Abstract

Earthquakes often result damage to building structures such as skyscraper buildings and power plants. The vibrations generated from the earthquake at the natural frequency of the building will result collapse to the building.
In this final project, the design of earthquake simulator in the form of Translational Shaking Table (TST) and analysis of unbalance mass, eccentricity distance, and frequency effect to dynamic response at Translational Shaking Table in laboratory scale. The rotation of the unbalance mass is used to generate vibration.
The process of translational shaking table testing is done by installing the unbalance mass on the disc which has varied the eccentric distance from the center of the disc. The energy source for the unbalance rotation is ¼ hp AC electric motor . The varied values are unbalance mass with 400 grams; 800 grams; and 1200 grams and eccentric distances with 4 cm, 5 cm, and 6 cm. The data is collected by variation of the frequency generated from the electric motor and the installation of the accelerometer probe on the Translational Shaking Table vibrating component which will be connected to the oscilloscope to display the dynamic response graph of acceleration.
The result of this Final Project is a tool for earthquake testing on building structure for laboratory scale in the form of Translational Shaking Table (TST) and got the result of graph of acceleration response to the given frequency change and the data obtained from the test have similarity characteristics with simulation result data with mathematical modeling. In the calculation and simulation results obtained natural frequencies contained at the frequency of 0.748 Hz. While the working frequency used is a range of 5-15 Hz so the device is safe to use because it does not pass the natural frequency. The graph of the experimental results represents that the greater the eccentric distance given it will have an effect on the greater the acceleration response is directly proportional. Similarly, the mass of unbalance used is also proportional to the acceleration response. As for the frequency has the effect of the squared function on the acceleration response. The data obtained from the experiments have the same characteristics with the simulation results with an average error of 9.53%.
