Abstract

This research uses starting material of rGO charcoal powder from old coconut shell. The rGO powder was synthesized with 1 M HCl and FeCl3 solution stirred with a magnetic stirrer at 70°C. The addition of glucose and doping nitrogen from NH4OH aim to increase specific capacitance of the supercapacitor electrode during chemical and mechanical exfoliation processes. This study aims to determine the effect of addition of glucose and NH4OH to the capacitance values and energy density of EDLC superkapasitor. Electrode characterization uses several characterisasions. Analyses for the starting material include XRD, SEM-EDX, XRF, and CHONS Analyzer. Testing for the synthetic rGO electrode uses PSA and CV. The result of XRD shows that the basic material in this research is rGO, with diffraction angle (2) = 24o and 44o. The result of XRF shows the percentage of element C on the starting material is large enough, that is 53%. The result of SEM-EDX shows the morphology of the basic material rGO that is still in the form of flakes and the distribution of element C in the sample is evenly distributed. The result of PSA shows that the size of the particles can be reduced after the synthesis process. The result of CV shows the sample of R212 (rGO: HCl: NH4OH: FeCl3: Glucose = 2: 2: 2: 1: 2) has the largest capacitance value with a value of 37.33 F/g and energy density 74.66 J/g. The results above show the addition of NH4OH may increase the value of the specific capacitance of the supercapacitor in the absence of over-doped nitrogen in the rGO, and more efficient when glucose is added as much as the rGO composition.
