Abstract

The exhaust emissions from ships are a major source of air pollution. Awareness of the scale and environmental impact of these emissions encourages the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to enact more stringent regulations on emissions. This makes the shipowner must use a more environmentally friendly fuel or use technology to reduce exhaust emissions. By using natural gas as fuel, the potential for pollution of water and harmful exhaust emissions can be substantially reduced, so water transport is bound to be more environmentally friendly. There is now a diesel engine with dual fuel diesel engine technology, which mixes fuel oil with gas fuel. Current technology can be operated alternately between dual fuel and diesel fuel as a pilot or with 100% gas fuel. Double fuel system can save the use of diesel fuel. The need for gas fuels on a ferry to sail for one day is 9.3m3 LNG and 1.9 m3 MDO. The tank used is a container tank type C iso with a capacity of 19.8m3. In the gas fuel system, the fuel stored in the iso tank container is container C type in the form of LNG. LNG is converted to gas at the processing section. In the processing section there are pumps, vaporizers and heater. The pump capacity is 2.5 m3 / hr and the vaporizer with a capacity of 50 MSCF. There is an inert gas inlet at the output portion of the tank and the air inlet as filler in a double pipe. In GVU there are inert gas inlets, residual gas channels for GCU (Gas Combustion Unit), and air vents for dual pipes. Double pipes are already in the tank output section up to GVU, and from GVU to the engine.
