Abstract

=========================================================================== Paralana geothermal system is a hot dry rock system. Magnetotelluric is the most commonly used method of geothermal exploration due to its deep penetration and sensitivity to conductive zone. In this research, 2D model inversion of magnetotelluric data of Paralana using NLCG algorithm to analysis the distribution of subsurface resistivity The result of the inversion modeling is the subsurface resistivity section with the rms error below 5%, it shows the model obtained is a good model. A good model is determined by the smoothing curve, the mesh parameter, the initial model, and the inversion parameter. The result of inversion modelling is The interpretation results show the conductive zone at depth ~500 m and the resistivity is 2-10 Ωm with the lithology of cretaceous and tertiary sands and clays. The more resistive zone with a resistivity value is 30-100 Ωm at depth of 500-2000 m with lithology of cambrian and adelaidean sandstone. In the high reisitivity layer has the ambiguity caused by some lithology of rock such as heatsource rocks so that the magnetotelurik method is not appropriate for heatsource zone mapping.
