Abstract

The greenhouse effect produced by human has caused the increasing of global warming. Energy sector takes the biggest role, especially the energy sector that are using hydrocarbon fuel. One of the alternative in more environmentally friendly energy is nuclear energy. Plant that will be used in this final project is the High Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor Nuclear Power Plant. This plant utilizes the energy produced from fission reaction to heat the Helium gas, the Helium gas then transfers its energy within the steam generator to the feed water and turns it into high energy steam that is used to rotate turbine to produce electricity. The Economic PlantWide Control is needed in designing the control strategy for this plant, because of a such high risk of this plant, the existence of energy and material balance, and economical consideration to maximize the profit of this plant. The economical variables that are needed to be controlled is the thermal energy delivered to the reactor from the uranium fission inside the reactor and the mass flow rate of the feed water. The variable that acts as the ThroughPut Manipulator (TPM) of this plant is the set point value of the Power. There are three control strategies that will be analyzed which are Boiler Following Mode (BFM), Turbine Following Mode (TFM), and Coordinate Control Mode (CCM). The best control mode which produced the most profit is the CCM, this control mode is able to produce profit of 2.333.298,00 IDR for each hour, while the BFM has the highest energy efficiency of 29,6 %.
