Abstract

==================================================================================
Natural events such as volcanoes are always disturbing residents around the mountain area most caused, especially toxic gases. There are some toxic gases that often arise when the volcano erupts: Carbon Monoxide (CO), Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Hydrogen Cyanide (HCN), Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S), Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) when inhaled with high levels will be very dangerous.
Carbon Monoxide (CO) is one of the most dangerous gases I will discuss. This tool is portable and will be placed at a distance of about ± 100 meters higher than residential areas, so there is still time for residents to move to settlement (evacuation) to a safer place. The working system of this tool is to measure the gas in a closed room using a CO (MQ7) gas sensor and measure the ambient temperature with a Thermocouple max6675 type K sensor. The data read by the sensor will be forwarded to Arduino Uno and will be telemetering with a radio wave (transmitter) medium and captured by a LabVIEW based computer that has a receiver set up.
The test results can monitor the levels of gas (CO) and tempera-ture accurately because it has been calibrated and compared, so that the percentage error of CO (MQ7) gas sensor is 0.011 – 0.4% and the percentage of error of thermocouple sensor is 0 – 0.03 %. The application of this tool to provide precise information about CO gas content to the surrounding residents with telemetering distance from 0 - 110 meters using toxic gas in real time.
