Abstract

================================================================================================
Makassar City as one of the big cities in Indonesia which has experienced rapid development has resulted in increased land cover so that groundwater infiltration decreases. In addition, groundwater used in Makassar is also very high. The high groundwater demand will result in the exploitation of groundwater which causes a decrease in groundwater level. From these two points, the research was conducted with the aim of determining the location of sea water intrusion that occurred and determining the groundwater conservation area in Makassar.
This study uses a Geographic Information System (GIS) with the overlay model union method using spatial data, including soil permeability maps, slope maps, geological maps, rainfall maps, land use maps and aquifer productivity maps and non-spatial data, including data groundwater depth and data on laboratory results of chloride (Cl) water quality. From these data, a zone map of the groundwater conservation area and the location of sea water intrusion in Makassar City was determined.
Based on the results of testing the quality of Cl elemental water, seawater intrusion has occurred in the coastal areas of Makassar City, namely in the Sub-District of Tamalate, District of Panakukang and District of Tallo. In addition, it can be seen that the distribution of groundwater conservation zones consisting of 5 zones, namely the Safe Zone with an area of 110.45 km2 (62.90%), Prone Zone 33.06 km2 (18.90%), Critical Zone 25, 35 km2 (14.50%), Water Infiltration Zone 5.22 km2 (3%), and Water Difficult Zone 1.23 km2 (0.7%).
