Abstract

Indonesia is a country with a fairly high earthquake rate. This event poses a major danger, namely ground shaking and surface rupture, while one of the secondary hazards of earthquakes is the phenomenon of liquefaction. The phenomenon of liquefaction is a phenomenon when the soil loses its strength and stiffness due to the shake that occurs during an earthquake. Liquidation only occurs in saturated types of loose sand (Seed & Idriss, 1982). In general, the planning of foundations for buildings from one to two story in particular has used shallow foundations, but the planning of buildings for three to six story generally still uses deep foundations. Therefore, if the planning of this building foundation can be planned using a shallow foundation, it is expected to be able to reduce the cost of foundation material. However, the shallow foundation cannot simply be used because liquefaction will happen when the earthquake occurs, so a method of soil improvement is needed to solve the problem before the shallow foundation and the building is built. Dynamic compaction is one example method of ground improvement.
Cilacap, Central Java is an earthquake area with PGA of 0.456 g (source: puskim.pu.go.id). Analysis of the soil in the Cilacap area has been carried out in 2017, as for the results of the investigation of the land obtained from the +20 meter deep loose to medium sand type (source: ITS soil mechanics laboratory results). Based on these conditions, Cilacap has the potential for liquefaction. This Final Project discusses the calculation of potential liquefaction potential, determines effective dynamic compaction specifications, and comparisons of material prices between the use of shallow foundations and deep foundations for each building height of three, four, five, up to six floors.
From the planning results, it is known that the potential for liquefaction layer is as deep as 19 meters, then the dynamic compaction specifications required are 75 tons pounder weight, 20 meter high pounder fall, 5 meter pounder diameter, 9 blows per point, and 7.5 meter in grid spacing. Also known is the subgrade parameters after being calculated with empirical calculations, which initially N-SPT value on the ground at an average of 11.67 increased to 15.71. The price of shallow foundation with ground improvement material (the price of heavy equipment not included) also shows a cheaper price compared to the deep foundation without ground improvement for each height of the building from three-story up to six-story. For example, planning a deep foundation for a three-story building requires a cost of Rp 8,909,752,147, while the planning of a shallow foundation in the same building only requires Rp 1,898,999,498.
