Abstract

Technological developments in cars are increasing. One of them is Limited Slip Differential (LSD), which is applied to the power train system of the car. 2018, is the sixth year of ITS Team Sapuangin with Sapuangin Speed (SAS) 6 participating in the SFJ event. However, the ITS Team Sapuangin ranking in the SFJ event still tends to be poor. In 2018, the Sapuangin ITS team was only ranked 58th in the skidpad, ranked 61th on autocross and ranked 60th on endurance. This happens because the torque and power from the engine cannot be distributed properly to the wheels. When the car turns and one of the wheels loses its normal force, the car will rolling, then the wheels that stick on the road will lose its traction.
In this thesis, will analyze the calculation based on the car's FBD when turning on the student formula sircuit. Calculate the allowable speed, calculate the speed that must be taken, then analyze skid and rolling, and the last is calculates Road-Load Horse Power (Rhp), wheel torque when turning that can be distributed by LSD on one wheel. The calculation in this analysis is given a variation of clutch plate (0011/60%, 0101/100%) and ramp angle variations (90o/0%, 60o/29%, 50o/42%, 45o/51%, 40o/60%, 30o/80%) done on skidpad (R = 8,55m), hairpin turns on autocross and endurance (Rmin = 4,5m) and on constant turns autocross and endurance (R = 11m-27m).
From the analysis of the critical radius (hairpin turns) affected by LSD the results of LSD use will be optimum in the largest locking pecentage LSD, when SAS 6 drives at a speed of 18,37 m/s, will cause the car wheel to be lifted maximum on the hairpin turns radius 4,5 m with a lift angle of 17,999o. And when not using LSD (LP = 0%), the car power (Rhp) is 0 watt and produces a speed for driving 0 m/s, as well as torque on the outer wheel of 3,884 Nm. When using LSD with a loocking percentage (LP) of 88%, the car will have power (Rhp) of 2477,352 watts which will cause the car to have a speed of 17,480 m/s and wheel torque of 17,999 Nm. And for LSD selection the initial torque must be the same as the wheel torque value when the wheel starts to lift.
