Abstract

Surabaya memiliki sejarah ‘kota pelabuhan sungai’ dengan sungai kalimas yang memiliki nilai
historis tinggi, bahkan selama masa kolonial Jembatan Merah sempat menjadi pelabuhan
sungai yang cukup sibuk. namun sekarang sungai kalimas kumuh dan tidak terawat. Salah satu
penyebab tidak terawatnya sungai adalah karena warga tidak merasa kehadiran sungai
mempunyai nilai lebih selain hanya menjadi tempat pembuangan. Perlu adanya peningkatan
kesadaran warga akan nilai historis dan kepentingan hadirnya sungai kalimas, sebagai identitas
kota, sarana transportasi dan rekreatif.
Pemerintah sudah melakukan beberapa upaya untuk menambah interaksi warga dengan sungai
di antaranya pembangunan taman-taman yang letaknya di pinggir kalimas seperti Taman
Ekspresi dan Taman Prestasi, serta wisata menggunakan river boat mini yang beroprasi setiap
hari minggu. Akan tetapi upaya ini masih belum cukup mewakili indentitas dan masa jaya
sungai kalimas seperti masa lalunya. Maka objek arsitektur yang disarankan untuk
permasalahan ini adalah area komersil sesuai dengan fungsi lahan sekitarnya yang digabung
dengan fungsi rekreatif seperti river cruise dan area kuliner.
Dengan konteks dan area yang cukup luas, maka arsitektur ini termasuk pada golongan semi
urban. agar fungsi apapun yang dibutuhkan di sekitar site pada generasi selanjutnya tidak akan
mengubah tujuan utama dari pembangunan arsitektur ini, yakni untuk mengerahkan
masyarakat berkegiatan di sungai kembali, maka arsitektur yang dihadirkan harus
berkelanjutan. Oleh karena itu dasar desain yang diambil adalah arsitektur responsif, sesuai
kebutuhan pemakainya.

Surabaya has a lot of terrific history with Kalimas river that should be universally known and
defined with its architecture. The fact is Surabaya has not had enough landmarks to bring its
people to know and do activites around Kalimas river. This condition brings Surabaya citizens
act neglectful to Kalimas condition, and makes the river itself ignored and identified as slum
area. Thus it needs architecture as a container of activities and as a Kalimas representative to
connect people and Kalimas river
The Government has made some efforts to increase interaction among residents with river
construction gardens located on the edge Kalimas like Taman Ekspresi and Taman Prestasi, as
well as using the river boat tour mini that operate every day of the week. However, these efforts
are still not adequately represent the identity and the heyday of river Kalimas like his past. Then
the object architecture suggested for this problem is a commercial area in accordance with the
surrounding land use combined with recreational functions such as river cruise and culinary area.
With semi-urban context, to fulfill this function, the selected architecture is sustainable
architecture that can be enjoyed and remained in use until future generations so that the initial
objectives have not changed. Then the chosen architecture is the architecture with the concept of
a responsive region, the architecture based on the needs and character of man as a user.
