Abstract

elektroda T100 mempunyai nilai spesifik kapasitansi terbesar jika dibandingkan
dengan elektroda karbon T120 dan T110 dengan nilainya berturut-turut adalah 227.7,
221.4, dan 209.5 mF/g. Dalam kemampuan mengurangi kadar garam 0.1 M NaCl,
elektroda karbon T100 mampu mengurangi kandungan NaCl sebesar 52.71 %
sedangkan untuk elektrodaT110 diperoleh 35.04% dan pada elektroda T120
memberikan hasil 49.15%.

Carbon electrodes have successfully been synthesized and characterized for
Capacitive Deionization (CDI). Carbon electrodes were prepared by crosslink method
with various cross-link temperatures at 100 (T100), 110 (T110), and 120oC (T120)
using an activated carbon from coconut shell with Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) as a
binder and citric acid as a cross-linking agent. Fourier transform infrared
spectroscopy (FTIR) was used to prove cross-linking PVA with citric acid. The
results showed that there is no absorption in the OH group, it indicates that there has
been a crosslinking in PVA and citric acid. Morphological observation using SEM
EDX showed the main content in the electrode was C. Calculation of specific
capacitance from Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) at sweep rate of 10 mV/s indicates that
the electrode T100 has the largest specific capacitance value when compared with
carbon electrodes T120 and T110, with specific capacitance value at 227.7, 221.4,
and 209.5 mF/g, respectively. The highest salt-removal percentage value of 0.1 M
NaCl can be achieved for carbon electrodes T100 at 52.71% whilst resulted in 35.04
and 49.15% for carbon electrodes T110 and T120, respectively
