Abstract

Turbin angin Savonius adalah salah satu jenis turbin angin yang biasa digunakan untuk memanfaatkan energi non fossil pada era krisis energi saat ini, namun tipe turbin ini memiliki performa yang buruk. Pada prinsipnya, turbin Savonius bekerja dengan memanfaatkan perbedaan gaya drag yang dihasilkan oleh kedua sudu, advancing dan returning blade. Sebuah silinder pengganggu sirkular diletakkan di depan returning blade diharapkan akan meningkatkan performa turbin Savonius. Untuk meningkatkan performa turbin angin Savonius yang memiliki diameter sudu (D) 60 mm dan tinggi (H) 80 mm, sebuah silinder pengganggu sirkular dengan diameter (d) 60 mm diletakkan di depan returning blade. Silinder pengganggu ini diletakkan dengan variasi jarak S/D = 1,6, 1,7, 1,8, 1,9, 2,0, 2,1, 2,2, 2,3, 2,4, dan 2,5. Eksperimen dilakukan pada subsonic, open circuit wind tunnel. Wind tunnel ini memiliki panjang 2980 mm, dengan ukuran test section 304 mm x 304 mm. Kecepatan udara diatur pada 8,83 m/s, 11,03 m/s, dan 13,24 m/s, sesuai dengan bilangan Reynolds yaitu Re = 6,0x104 , 7,5x104 , dan 9,0x104 (berdasarkan panjang karakteristik L = 2D-b, dimana b adalah lebar overlap kedua sudu, dan kecepatan aliran udara). Kecepatan aliran udara diukur dengan menggunakan pitot static tube yang dihubungkan dengan inclined manometer.

Savonius wind turbine is a type of turbine that has been widely used to obtain alternative non-fossil energy in the era of the current energy crisis, eventhoug this type of turbine has low performance. In principle, the Savonius turbine works caused by the difference of the drag force generated by its turbine blades, advancing and returning blades. A disturbance in the form of circular cylinder is placed in front of returning blade is expected to improve the performance of Savonius Turbine. In order to increasing performance of Savonius wind turbine having a diameter D of 60 mm and height h of 80 mm, an obstacle cylinder having a diameter d of 60 mm is used as a disturbance located in front of returning blade of turbine. This disturbance is located in various spacing positions of S/D = 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.9, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, and 2.5. The experiments are carried out in a subsonic open circuit wind tunnel. This facility has a 2980 mm long, with test section 304 mm x 304 mm. The free stream velocity of wind tunnel could be adjusted to 8.83 m/s, 11.03 m/s, 13.24 m/s, corresponding respectively to Reynolds number Re = 6.0 x 104 , 7.5 x 104 , 9.0 x 104 (based on equivalent length of L = 2D-b, where b is the width of overlap of the two turbine blades, and the free stream velocity). The velocity of wind is measured using a pitot-static tube connected to the inclined manometer
