Abstract

The process of developing renewable energy also means the process of development in its supporting elements, namely lithium-ion batteries and as a component of energy storage. Lithium-ion batteries (Li-ion) have been chosen as energy storage devices for portable equipment, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and grid storage systems. But there is a problem, namely the process of charging energy where the UAV that uses batteries will take longer than the UAV that uses gasoline. Plus the disadvantages of ordinary converters are lack of capacity, voltage gain and also high current stress, which results in inefficient battery charging. Therefore a converter that has a good capacity, capability and efficiency is needed. To implement battery charging with better capacity and efficiency, a cascaded bidirectional buck-boost converter is proposed that can work both ways and have better capacity and gain capacity, besides this topology has the same polarity at its output. From the test results obtained the converter can flow bidirectionally, work in buck or boost mode, and have an efficiency of 83% for buck mode, and 81% for boost mode. And the filling process is carried out for 83 minutes to reach an SOC of approximately 90 – 95% from the initial condition of the 40% SoC.
