Abstract

Indonesia is a country that is located on the equator and has abundant solar energy potential. However, Indonesia is still very dependent on non-renewable energy. The government is committed to encouraging investment in renewable energy, and introducing several programs such as “sejuta surya atap” and providing incentives to PLN customers, through a prosumer scheme, where consumers of rooftop solar homes can consume their own energy generated by rooftop solar, and sell the excess to the PLN grid. Renewable energy is still rare in Indonesian society. Therefore, this study aims to identify the characteristics and opportunities and challenges of users and non-users of solar photovoltaics. The purpose of this study was completed using descriptive analysis and ANOVA to determine the differences felt by users and non-users of rooftop solar on the role of government and rooftop solar sellers. In this study, there were 119 respondents. Based on the opportunity and challenge analysis using descriptive analysis, the results show that rooftop solar users have the opportunity to save money and can reduce the cost of monthly electricity bills and have challenges in the cost of return on investment which is considered long enough. Meanwhile, non-rooftop solar users are interested in rooftop solar but do not invest because it is hampered by the cost of investing in rooftop solar which is considered quite expensive. Meanwhile, the results of the ANOVA test state that there are no differences that are felt by users and non-users of rooftop solar on the role of government and rooftop solar sellers.
