Abstract

• Investasi : $ 200.940.736,14
• Internal Rate of Return : 21%
• POT : 6,5 tahun
• BEP : 47,37 %
• WACC: 4,538%
====================================================================================================
Energy saving and utilization of New and Renewable Energy is one of the efforts to increase the supply and utilization of energy that is beneficial to all parties. Departing from this, the government is trying to encourage the use of various kinds of alternative energy as a way to reduce the dependency on fossil fuel and optimize the use of others alternative energies. Substitute Natural Gas (SNG) is a mixture of hydrocarbon gases with properties similar to natural gas that can be produced from gasification from raw materials such as coal or biomass. Gasification is the process of changing solid raw materials into gas. By converting solid raw materials to gas, unwanted materials contained in these raw materials such as sulfur compounds, carbon dioxide, and ash can be removed using certain methods so that a clean gas called syngas can be produced. Syngas which has the main content of CO and H2 is then converted into SNG in the form of methane (CH4) through a methanation process to produce the main product in the form of CH4 and a byproduct in the form of water. The level of coal production in 2016 was 456,042,287 tons. Indonesia's coal resources currently reach 104.94 billion tons and reserves of 21.13 billion tons. With such a large potential, the future challenge is to seek a strategic balance between the important role of coal as an economical primary energy for production activities in Indonesia. Coal gasification is riskless, odorless and environmentally friendly. Indonesian is known to have a very large potential for coal deposits, but coals that are economically valuable for development are only concentrated in tertiary basins in western Indonesia, namely on the islands of Sumatra and Kalimantan. The government must promote the development of alternative energy sources to replace natural gas and petroleum in accordance with Presidential Regulation number 5 of 2006. One of the potential energies that can replace it is SNG from coal. Based on data from the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Indonesia's natural gas balance in 2022 the natural gas supply is 2588,6 MMSCFD and with a demand of 3370,9 MMSCFD. Based on the calculation, from the prediction of the development of natural gas in Indonesia, it can be determined that the factory capacity is 1151,99 MMSCFD. It is expected that this SNG plant can meet the natural gas demand of 57,36 MMSCFD with the assumption of 330 production days. Due to the abundant potential of low rank coal in the South Sumatra region, the choice of factory location is in the province of South Sumatra. In addition, the potential for hydropower, electricity and transportation facilities in South Sumatra is also quite adequate, so it is not too difficult to set up a factory in the area.
The process of making SNG from coal consists of four main processes, namely coal preparation, gasification, gas cleaning, and methanation. The raw material used for this SNG plant is coal taken from PT. Bukit Asam Type BA45. Before entering the gasification process, coal undergoes a size reduction from 2.5 in to 6-50 mm in size. After that, the pulverized coal is put into the screen to separate the low rank coal sizes that are on spec from the over spec sizes, then it is processed into syngas in the gasifier reactor. In the gasification stage, coal originating from the pulverized coal bin enters the gasifier which is equipped with a lock hopper to increase the pulverized coal pressure from atmospheric pressure (1 bar) to 30 bar. An oxidizing agent in the form of O2 and steam is introduced through the bottom of the gasifier and then it contacted the coal as the oxidizer moves upward. In a gasifier, various kinds of reactions occur which are divided into three zones, namely the devolatilization zone, the combustion zone, and the gasification zone. Syngas that still contains various impurities, such as H2S, COS, and CO2 enters the WGS and COS Hydrolysis reactor to get CO and H2 syngas. The presence of H2S, COS, and CO2 compounds can cause damage to the equipment so that it needs to be removed. Then the syngas is fed to the absorber column and is contacted with the MDEA solution to separate the CO2 and H2S gases. The rich amine then leaves to the desorber to regenerate the MDEA solvent. Clean amine comes out of the bottom reboiler and is then pumped back into the absorber by pump. The top condenser flow from the desorber contains CO2 and H2S. While the syngas that comes out of the absorber is flowed into the methanator. In the methanation process, the gas mixture in the form of CO and H2 will enter the fixed-bed reactor using a catalyst in the form of nickel (Ni). The methanation reaction takes place in three reactors installed in series. The product that comes out of the last metanator still contains a large amount of H2O, so it needs to be separated. Separation of H2O from the product is carried out using a separator. The source of investment funds that come from personal funding is 40% investment costs and short-term loans at 60% investment costs with an interest of 9.95% per year. From the analysis of economic calculations, the following results are obtained:
• Investment: $ 200,940,736.14
• Internal Rate of Return: 21%
• POT: 6.5 years
• BEP: 47.37%
WACC: 4,538%
When viewed as a whole, the average% IRR still indicates that the SNG plant from low rank coal is feasible to be established.
