Abstract

Stunting is a condition where a toddler has less length or height when compared to age. This condition is measured by length or height that is more than minus two standard deviations from the median standard of child growth from WHO. Toddler stunting includes chronic nutritional problems caused by many factors such as socioeconomic conditions, maternal nutrition during pregnancy, morbidity in infants, and lack of nutrition in optimal physical and cognitive development. In this study, model the factors that are suspected to influence the incidence of stunting in children under five in East Java Province using the Multivariate Adaptive Regression Spline (MARS) method. Based on the minimum Generalized Cross Validation (GCV) value, the best model is the second model with the number of BF = 18, MI = 1, and MO = 1. The results of the parameter significance test indicate that the variables that have a significant effect on the percentage of stunting in infants in East Java are the percentage of babies given exclusive breastfeeding and an expenditure per capita per month.
