Abstract

The history of design movements is one of the most important thing that design students need to study. They need to understand the historical context in each movement as a reference and inspiration to create new artworks. By paying attention to history, students not only become more sensitive to the historical factors that influence them, but can also encourage more meaningful decisions in their work. To support this, a learning media is needed that can provide knowledge on how far students understand the history of design movements. A media that applies different learning method to provide a new learning experience, namely the board game using the gamification method.
The board game design methods include literature studies that examine theories about systematics and board game mechanisms, components and aspects needed in board game, and design history books that will provide the content. Then study the existing board game to study its presentation. Collecting primary data in the form of questionnaires. As well as designing the concepts, the alternative designs, and the final board game design.
The design of the board game is intended as a learning media that can provide instant feedback through the gamification method it uses. Students can find out how far they understand the content, then they can learn from their shortcomings by playing the board game over and over again. The board game can also be used as visual references (illustrations) to create new artworks.
