Abstract

Telah diusulkan rancang bangun sebuah sensor kadar alkohol berbasis fiber
optik hetero-struktur. Struktur sensing-probe yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini
adalah sambungan singlemode-multimode-singlemode (SMS) dan dibengkokkan
menyerupai huruf U, yang selanjutnya disebut dengan u-bent. Struktur SMS dipilih
untuk memperoleh sensitivitas yang tinggi. Penelitian ini memanfaatkan efek
makrobending dan prinsip multimode interference dimana dilakukan rekayasa
medium cladding dengan memvariasikan larutan alkohol dari 0% - 5%. Pengujian
performansi sensor dilakukan dengan mengukur daya keluaran sensor akibat
adanya pengaruh dari parameter panjang MMF-section, diameter lengkungan dan
konsentrasi alkohol yang digunakan. Cahaya infrared (1310 nm) ditransmisikan
melalui fiber optik SMS u-bent yang medium cladding-nya telah dimodifikasi oleh
variasi kadar alkohol. Adanya variasi kadar alkohol menyebabkan karakteristik
daya yang ditransmisikan berubah. Dari hasil pengujian sensor secara eksperimen,
sensor fiber optik SMS u-bent dengan diameter lengkungan 50 mm dan variasi
panjang MMF sebesar 63 mm memiliki kinerja yang terbaik ditinjau dari
sensitivitas tertinggi yaitu 3.38 dB/%

An alcohol sensor based on fiber optic hetero-structured has been proposed.
The structure of sensing probe is Singlemode-Multimode-Singlemode (SMS)
which has been bent into U shaped, and soon called as SMS u-bent. SMS structured
is used to develop higher sensitivity of sensor. This research utilize the
macrobending effect and multimode interference principle by varying alcohol
concentration from 0% - 5% as the modified cladding. The performance test of the
sensor has been done by measuring power output sensor. The value of power output
sensor is affected by the lenght of MMF-section, bending diameter and alcohol
concentration. An infrared (1310 nm) has been excited through fiber optic SMS ubent
which
has
a
modified
cladding.
The
various
alcohol
concentrations
cause
the

characteristic
of
transmited
power
changed.
According
to
the
result
of
sensor
testing

experiment,

SMS u-bent sensor with 63 mm MMF lenght and 50 mm bending
diameter has the highest sensitivity of 3.38 dB/%
