Abstract

Nickel-doped magnesium fluoride catalyst (Mg0,095Ni0,05F2) synthesis by sol gel method and optimization of the catalytic reaction for the formation of methyl oleate have been investigated. The catalyst was characterized by X-ray diffraction and FTIR. The characterization results showed that the Ni doping process in the MgF2 catalyst occurred, and the Lewis and Brønsted acid side values, SBET, and pore volume were 0,117; 0,047; 12,97 m2/g and 0.093 cm3/g respectively. The performance of the catalyst has been tested on the esterification of oleic acid with methanol into methyl oleate by optimizing several factors that affect the reaction, namely temperature, time, and catalyst concentration. The results showed that the optimum catalyst performance was at a temperature of 150°C, reaction time of 120 minutes, 6% catalyst concentration of oleic acid with FFA conversion 77,63%. Density, flash point, pH and color of methyl oleate according to ASTM D 6751 and SNI 7182:2015 are 0,8739 g/cm3, 104°C, 6 and 3,586 respectively.
