Abstract

Indonesia is an archipelagic country with 70% of its territory consists of ocean, has a very high maritime activities. The development of ships and offshore buildings is increasingly intensive and modern is one proof of the high activity. However, it is still considered inadequate related to safety assurance in conducting activities at sea. The occurrence of relatively high accidents is one of the proofs. This is mainly due to large ocean waves that occur in certain seasons. Lack of understanding due to the low quality and quantity of research on waves, is one of the causes of the low ability to overcome maritime safety issues in Indonesia. This is also caused by the lack of adequate factual data. Based on this, it is very urgent to conduct sea wave research through field measurements, so that understanding of the characteristics of sea wave behavior is higher.
In this dissertation, a study of the characteristics of the behavior of ocean waves in a waters by using a modified Ultra Sonic sea level elevation measuring device. Before doing the modification the tool is used as a tool for observing tides. Furthermore, the modified tool is used as a wave meter and is called the Ultra Sonic Device (MUSD) Modification. Specifically the research was carried out by placing MUSD as a wave station on the oil and gas drilling platform, the Love National complex of the China National Offshore Oil Corporation of South East Sumatra (CNOOC SES) Ltd. MUSD is placed in such a way at a certain height above sea level. The data collection was carried out with a 6.0 Hz sampling rate or 6 samples in 1.0 seconds during the study period of 1 (one) year.
Wave record data for 1 (one) year, divided into each data group consisting of 30 minutes of data recording, so that in 1 year there are 17520 data groups. Furthermore, the sampling method is used by determining 1 (one) day of data in the most extreme conditions representing the condition of 1 (one) month of data, so that in 12 months there are 12 days of data or a number of 576 data groups. Initial analysis was performed on the group data using the Short Term Wave Analysis (STWA) method. The analysis results obtained in the form of representative characteristics of the waves which include the number, height, period and distribution of waves. Further analysis was carried out to obtain the wave spectrum using the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) method, and the final analysis was carried out to obtain the spectrum formulation of the study area based on the 576 spectra of the FFT results.
The results of the analysis of 576 groups of wave recordings namely the maximum number of waves in 1 (one) year is Nmaks.th = 982, minimum Nmin.th = 421 and average Nrat.th = 561. Maximum wave period Tmaks.th = 4, 26 seconds, minimum Tmin.th = 1.81 seconds and average Trat.th = 2.97 seconds. Maximum wave height average Hav.maks.th = 0.824 m, minimum Hav.min.th = 0.1 m and Hav.rat.th average = 0.333 m. Maximum RMS wave height Hrms.maks.th = 0.952 m, minimum Hrms.min.th = 0.130 m and average Hrms.rat.th = 0.392 m. Maximum significant wave height Hs.maks.th = 1,367 m, minimum Hs.min.th = 0.193 m and mean Hs.rat.th = 0.567 m. The highest maximum wave height is Hmaks.maks.th = 2,304 m, the lowest is Hmaks.min.th = 0.387 m and the average Hmaks.rat.th = 1,047 m. The result of further analysis is that more than 98% of the wave spectrum has 2 peak peaks, where the 1st peak at the lower frequency is always higher than the 2nd peak. The 1st peak is influenced by local wind, and the 2nd peak is influenced by swell.
The final analysis results are the Adrianto-Djatmiko-Suntoyo Spectra formulation (ADS Spectra) with the level of concordance between the FFT spectrum results and the spectrum of the ADS Spectra formulation results of more than 80%. The ADS Spectra consists of 5 parameters, namely the Frequency Spectrum f, 1st Frequency Spectrum Frequency f1, 2nd Frequency Spectrum Frequency f, and Significant Wave Height Hs and Adrianto Ad Numbers. Furthermore, the ADS Spectra is representative of the characteristics of wave spectra in the waters of the West Java Sea, as follows:
