Abstract

Mooring integrity menjadi perhatian penting dalam industri lepas pantai. Namun, adanya

Mooring integrity is an important concern in the offshore industry. However, there are several
failures of the mooring system related to corrosion of the chain causing the actual design life
of the mooring system to be lower than the operating service life (D'Souza and Majhi, 2013).
Most of these incidents occurred in tropical waters. Until now, many design codes for structures
in tropical waters are still based on the code for the North Sea, even though both have different
environmental conditions (Chaplin et al., 2007). This research was conducted to determine the
magnitude of the influence of the tropical environment and to seek empirical estimates of the
parameters that are thought to have a major effect on corrosion that occurs in tropical waters.
Then, the corrosion loss (mm / year) obtained using the empirical estimate will be compared
with the wear allowance (mm / year) stated in the existing design rules for comparison. The
result of this study produces an equation function for findimg the corrosion loss based on the
parameters of temperature, current velocity, and DIN for two different levels, namely low
concentration level DIN, and high concentration level DIN. The function is able to analyze the
estimation of corrosion occurs in two different locations in the chain, namely the splashzone
area and immersed area. This new parameter indicating the location of the corrosion is denoted
by fz which represents the location factor, with a value of fz of 1 for the immersed area and
1.312 for splashzone area. Finally, athe parameters that influence corrosion in tropical waters
produce the final function equation in the form of an empirical estimate of corrosion loss
