Abstract

Clean water is one of the most essential human needs. Usually, clean water is distributed from water source to every house using pipes. Those pipes are mostly made from metal and planted underground. As the time goes on as well as other environmental factors, a pipe will experience a corrosion process. High corrosion level on a pipe means that the pipe must be replaced as soon as possible because the pipe will be very vulnerable to leak.

One way to detect the corrosion process on pipe in a pipe system is by installing sensors. Sensor will detect the changes of the value of the flow in a pipe. On the other side, for a very large pipe system such as the pipe system in a city, it will need a lot of sensors to detect the change of the flow that caused by corrosion process in a pipe.

From those problems, simulation and modelling from a pipe system where there are pipes that experiencing corrosion is needed. On the other side, the sensor price is relatively expensive for each unit. So, modelling and mapping of simulation result is needed to determine the most effective location to place the sensor where the sensor is expected to detect the change of flow when a pipe in the system experiences increased corrosion level.

The results of implementation and testing from resulting system and data are expected to help finding trend between the increasing of corrosion level and the changes of flow value on every pipe so it can be a reference to determine the most effective location to place the sensor.
