Abstract

In the swing arm bushing occurs frictional contact between the shaft and the swing arm, such as bearing work as a medium for translational movement of the swing arm. Bushing needs to be replaced frequently because it experiences wear that exceeds tolerance, so it causing discomfort and even danger when used.
The objective of this study is to determine the effect of the addition of silica powder on the specific wear rate and surface hardness of the epoxy resin material which later can be used as alternative reference material for certain purposes. Tests were carried out using a pin on disk tribometer with a variety of epoxy resin material on the bushing in the form of the addition of silica powder with a volume fraction of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%.
Based on the research, it shows that the addition of silica powder with a volume fraction of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% the value of surface hardness are 62.39 HD, 64.67 HD, 67.61 HD, 69.39 HD, the coefficient of friction kinetik values are 0,197, 0,193, 0,190, 0,168 and the density are 1.03938 gr/cm3, 1.07075 gr/cm3, 1.0838 gr/cm3, 1.09005 gr/cm3. that is shown that coefficient of friction inversely with surface hardness and density. The addition of silica powder to acrylic resin material can increase the value of hardness and but reduce the coefficient of friction value.
