Abstract

Adsorption of a mixture synthetic dyes Remazol Brilliant Blue R and Indigosol Pink IR for batik with carbonized bidara arab’s leaf (Ziziphus spina-christi) as adsorbent has been carried out. Batik dyes when directly discharged into waterways, it can cause environmental pollution, so it must be treated before being disposed of to reduce its concentration. The adsorption method is one of the effective methods in reducing the concentration of Remazol Brilliant Blue R and Indigosol Pink IR batik dyes. Some parameters studied in this study are variations in contact time, variations in adsorbent mass, variations in initial concentration and variations in pH of the solution. The adsorption results must be adapted using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at the maximum wavelength of each dye. The optimum adsorption conditions of Remazol Brilliant Blue R, Indigosol Pink IR, and the dye mixture were obtained at a contact time of 60 minutes, adsorbent mass of 45 mg, initial concentration of 8 ppm, and at pH 3. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that batik dye waste in the form of a mixture of Remazol Brilliant Blue R and Indigosol Pink IR dyes can be treated by adsorption method using bidara arab leaf as adsorbent to reduce the concentration of the dye mixture.
