Abstract

Marine waste has become a major problem in every country, Indonesia has an important role in reducing plastic waste that comes from land to the ocean. Indonesia's vast coastline, large population, and high waste production. Indonesia produces around 200,000 tonnes of waste annually with only 64% reaching landfills, while the rest ends up in the environment. The negative impact of the accumulation of garbage in the river causes blockage of the downstream part of the river which leads to the release of garbage into the sea, this accumulation also causes the overflow of the river to rise and cause flooding.

There are 5 sampling points in this study, the place is Porong River, Surabaya River, Mas River, Wonokromo River, and Pegirian River. Observation of waste was carried out using a netting method of garbage or waste collected from each river or river outlet using a net with a length of 75 m and a length of 1.5 m below with a net spacing of 5 cm or 2 inches. The nets are placed along the width of the river for 15 minutes and repeated 2-3 times a day with an estimated 2-4 days a week for each time/river to be sampled. The allocation of time is about 1 hour for plastic waste sampling at each of these locations. After filtering the waste, the researcher separates the waste according to the characteristics of the waste that have been determined, then weighs it for each characteristic of the waste. After obtaining the waste per characteristic, it is collected again and made into 2 characteristics, namely plastic and non-plastic waste.
The data that has been obtained, the most commonly collected waste that enters the 3 downstream rivers of Brantas, Wonokromo, and Pegirian is dominated by plastic with a total of Wonokromo in the amount of Surabaya River and Wonokromo River 215.03 kg/day if projected in year 78.486 m3/year, which at the time Pegirian River amount of Pegirian River and Mas River 276.03 kg/day if projected in a year in a year 100.75 m3/year. Porong River found plastic garbage weighing 111.68 kg/day with 4 times the projected annual sampling if obtained 40.763 m3/year. The sampling treatment was carried out by 4 rivers in Surabaya, with 8 sampling times, 1 sampling was carried out in the Porong River, but only 4 sampling times due to conditions in the field constrained by the speed factor of the river flow being too heavy. In the category of plastic, Porong River garbage 40.763 m3/year, then in Surabaya River can be accumulated in a year garbage accounted for 179,24 Surabaya m3/year of waste.
