Abstract

Gresik Regency is one of the areas with severe drought levels in East Java. Based on data from BNPB in 2015, it was stated that in the Gresik Regency there was a drought that hit 39 villages in 7 sub-districts. In 2019, according to BPS, drought occurred in 36 villages and 64 hamlets in the Gresik Regency area. This drought is a meteorological drought where the occurrence of drought is caused by low rainfall. This is also influenced by the high average surface temperature in an area. These two factors are currently difficult to predict due to uncertain climate change, this is also related to the global warming that is happening. This disaster cannot be completely avoided but can be minimized by knowing its distribution. This research was to identify and determine the distribution pattern of drought in Gresik Regency by utilizing Landsat 8 Satellite Imagery data processed with the NDVI, LST and TVDI algorithms in cloud computing using Google Earth Engine.
From the results of the NDVI and LST calculations, the data is checked in the field with a thermal camera to check the LST value and an infrared camera for the NDVI value. The results of this research is the low average TVDI value occurred in October 2015 which was 0.44 and peaked in November 2015 and 2019 with values of 0.58 and 0.65, respectively. Spatially, this drought hit 6 sub-districts in a row from 2015-2020, including the Districts of Driyorejo, Kedamean, Menganti, Balongpanggang, Benjeng and Cerme. With the highest dry land area of 66,261 hectares occurring in November 2019 and the lowest area of 42,783 hectares occurring in July 2016. Result of greater the dry land area is inversely proportional to the high rainfall at that time. So that the greater the area of dry land that occurs, the lower the rainfall. The results of this study can be accessed on the GEE Apps page to make it easier for the public to get information.
