Abstract

In the milling process, CNC machines require a coolant to prevent the cut components from being damaged by corrosion due to overheating. The problem we get in the industry is the lack of a system that supports water coolant control in the milling process, making it less accurate in filling water coolant and pure coolant liquid.
In this test, the discussion focuses on the coolant fluid. However, because the concentration detection sensor is not compatible, the liquid is replaced with salt water. The data collection method that we use is linear regression for the ultrasonic sensor and for the salinity sensor using the scaling method, while for the control method using a PID controller with Ziegler-Nichols tuning 1.
From the results of the analysis, the PID value is Kp = 17.24, Ki = 410 .47 and Kd = 0.18. The second test is to use only the PI parameters, namely Kp = 12.9 and Ki = 204.76. From the comparison results of PID, PI, and automatic tuning, the PID controller is superior, although only with a difference of 0.1 and 0.2 cm in the level and a difference of 1% in the coolant concentration. However, if the comparison is using human or manual labor, the PID controller method is more accurate.
