Abstract

aplikasi Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (DMFC).
membran Kit/Alg(3:1) sebesar 26,64 N/mm2. Membran Kit/Alg(3:1) selanjutnya
divariasi dengan penambahan filler mPTA. Filler mPTA yang dihasilkan
mempunyai ukuran partikel 191,88 nm, ukuran pori 3,705 nm, volume pori 0,016
cc g-1, dan terbentuknya puncak baru pada 2θ = 27°. Membran Kit/Alg(3:1)
dilakukan penambahan filler mPTA dengan variasi 0,05; 0,10; 0,15; 0,20; dan
0,25%. Membran Kit/Alg/mPTA(3:1:0,20%) memiliki kinerja terbaik dengan nilai
permeabilitas metanol sebesar 8,17 × 10-6 cm2 s-1 dan nilai konduktivitas proton
sebesar 45,8 × 10-3 S cm-1.

Chitosan-based electrolyte membranes have been successfully synthesized
by the phase inversion method and physicochemical properties analysis was carried
out for each membrane. The purpose of this study was to obtain an electrolyte
membrane with a matrix of chitosan and alginate as well as mesoporous
phosphotungstic acid (mPTA) filler for Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (DMFC)
applications. This research consisted of several stages, namely the synthesis of
mPTA filler, synthesis of membrane, characterization, and performance testing.
The characterization consisted of FTIR, PSA, N2 adsorption-desorption, XRD, and
tensile test, while the membrane performance test consisted of methanol
permeability and proton conductivity. The synthesized membrane consisted of
Kit/Alg membrane in a ratio of (2:1), (3:1), and (5:1). In this study, chitosan with
the addition of alginate give an increase in tensile strength with a membrane
composition of Kit/Alg(3:1) membrane of 26.64 N/mm2. The Kit/Alg(3:1)
membrane was then varied by adding mPTA filler. The resulting mPTA filler has a
particle size of 191.88 nm, a pore size of 3.705 nm, a pore volume of 0.016 cc g-1,
and the formation of a new peak at 2θ = 27°. The Kit/Alg(3:1) membrane was added
with mPTA filler with a variation of 0.05; 0.10; 0.15; 0.20; and 0.25%. The
Kit/Alg/mPTA(3:1:0.20%) membrane has the best performance with a methanol
permeability value of 8.17 × 10-6 cm2 s-1 and a proton conductivity value of 45.8 ×
10-3 S cm-1.
