Abstract

The technology development for motorized vehicle engines
with Otto-cycle stipulates the fuel manufacturer to produce better gasoline products, one of the parameters for good fuel is having high octane number level. But sometimes the market fuel only has a low octane number. To increase the amount of octane number of the fuel, PT. BEST created an additive substance called Eco Racing Octane Booster that claimed can help increase octane number in the fuel, improve the engine performance, and save fuel. This research aims to prove the accuracy of the claims from Eco Racing Octane Booster manufacturer. This experimental study was conducted with a Honda CB150R engine using fuel RON 88, RON 90, a mixture of RON 88 with Eco Racing, and a mixture of RON 90 with Eco Racing that is recommended by the packaging. The use of those fuels was conducted in two different engine compression ratios, which are CR 11:1 (standard engine condition) and CR 10:1 (additional packing head of 0.5 mm engine). The fuel testing on each compression engine used is carried out using Superflow dynamometers & flowbenches at fully open throttle conditions that are done on speed 30 km/h to 90 km/h with intervals of increasing the test speed of 5 km/h to obtain engine performance data which are torque and power and also specific fuel consumption (SFC), exhaust emissions, air-fuel ratio (AFR), engine temperature, and
exhaust gas temperature.
The results from this research found an increasing of low
heating value (LHV) and octane number as well as a decrease in the viscosity and density of the fuel added with Eco Racing pills. Based on the test, the average data value of the test results on engine compression is 10:1, the addition of the Eco Racing pill to the premium RON 88 increased the values of power 0.21%, torque 0.16%, thermal efficiency 0%, CO emission level 2.5%, and UHC emission level of 8.09% with a decreased the value is SFC 0.80%, while the addition of Eco Racing pills to pertalite RON 90 increased the values of power 2.52%, torque 2.25%, thermal efficiency 8.11%, and UHC emission level of 4.77% with decreased the values of SFC 5.33% and CO emission level 15.22%. On the average data value of the test results on engine compression is 11:1, the addition of the Eco Racing pill to the premium RON 88 increased in power values 4.41%, torque 1.67%, and thermal
efficiency 11.27% with decreased the values of SFC 11.61%, CO emission level 0.72%, and UHC emission level 24.18%, while the addition of Eco Racing pills to pertalite RON 90 increased the values of torque 0.29%, SFC 2.29%, and UHC emission level 3.41% with decreased in power value of 0.80%, thermal efficiency 1.23%, and CO emissions level 6.56%. The addition of Eco Racing to the premium RON 88 and pertalite RON 90 is superior at low to medium engine speeds because it produces the highest average power, torque, and thermal efficiency values and the lowest SFC occurs at engine compression ratios of 10:1 and 11:1.
