Abstract

The development of economic activity in a region is proportional to the increase in electricity demand in that region. To meet the increasing demand for electricity in Palu and its surroundings, PT. PLN (Persero) built the Palu-3 Steam Power Plant (PLTU) with a capacity of 2x50 MW in Donggala, Central Sulawesi. The contractor for the PLTU Palu-3 project is a consortium of PT. Wijaya Karya (WIKA), Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (DHI), and Korea South-East Power (KOEN).
The PLTU Palu-3 project is an EPC (Engineering Procurement Construction) type project, meaning that it involves more engineering disciplines. The engineering division in EPC Project consists of civil discipline, engineering process, project engineer, layout and piping, mechanical, equipment package, electrical, and instrumentation. The scope of work in the engineering division, especially in civil discipline carried out by PT. Wijaya Karya (Persero), Tbk., consists of underground work, structure, geotechnical, equipment foundation, marine structures, and architecture. In addition, the stages of work carried out are quite comprehensive, starting from the planning, design, and construction stages. The flow of the design phase starts with site investigation followed by modeling in accordance with the design criteria and specifications stated in the contract document. The modeling is carried out by referring to the existing basic design drawings, which will then be included in the calculation report and design drawings that will later be used as a reference in making shop drawings. After that, it was continued with steel fabrication work and material takeoff with reference to the shop drawings, and then a purchase order was made, and the last stage was production.
Several types of buildings designed by PT. Wijaya Karya (Persero), Tbk. in the PLTU Palu-3 project are the Belt Conveyor and Chlorination Plant Building structures. The design of the two buildings was carried out using several auxiliary programs, including Autocad for 2D drawings, Navis for 3D drawings, SAP2000 for loading analysis, AFES for foundation modeling analysis, RAM Connection & IDEA StatiCa for joint connection modeling analysis.
