Abstract

Virtual reality (VR) has gained significant attention in various fields, including education and training. This study explores the application of VR in the context of educational simulations for engine room ship training. The objective is to investigate the effectiveness of VR in enhancing the learning experience and knowledge retention of maritime students. The VR simulation allows students to immerse themselves in a realistic engine room setting, where they can interact with various equipment and perform simulated tasks. The research utilizes a Likert scale-based questionnaire to gather quantitative data on students' perceptions and experiences with the VR engine room simulation. The questionnaire includes items related to immersion with 89% test results, interactivity with 95% test results, presence with 86% test results and educational effectiveness. Additionally, a black box testing approach is employed to evaluate the functionality and performance of the VR application with 90% test results. The findings of this research provide insights into the effectiveness of VR in engine room training at Politeknik Pekapalan Surabaya. The results reveal the participants' positive perception of the VR training, highlighting its potential in enhancing learning experiences in a simulated engine room environment
