Abstract

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) notes that the number of new electric two-wheeler vehicles has reached 25,782 units, which is far from the planned target of 13 million units by 2030. This fact proves that the adoption of Electric Two Wheelers (E2W) in Indonesia is still very low. Several studies indicate that most consumers are not interested in adopting electric vehicles due to the high initial acquisition costs. However, on the other hand, it is often not realized that electric motorcycles offer significant cost advantages due to lower operational and fuel expenses. Therefore, to increase consumer awareness regarding the potential benefits they can gain, it is necessary to introduce the concept of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) to prospective consumers. TCO is an approach used to assess the overall cost of a product, encompassing acquisition, operational, and maintenance expenses. This study aims to map how the provision of TCO information and sociodemographic factors influence respondent’s preferences towards E2W. The research was conducted by distributing questionnaires, and the data obtained was analyzed using multinomial logistic regression. The results of this study show that TCO information increases the probability of respondents who were previously not interested in E2W adoption by 44.9%. Sociodemographic variables such as domicile, age, income, travel distance, and knowledge about E2W also significantly influence respondents' preferences. The study also highlights respondents' preferences regarding charging facilities and the required EV incentive policies, which can serve as input to accelerate the transition to using E2W.
