Abstract
Dua buah atau lebih benda yang mengalami kontak dan bergerak relatif satu sama lain akan menimbulkan gaya gesek yang dapat menyebabkan terjadinya kerusakan berupa keausan. Sampai saat ini, telah banyak dilakukan penelitian terkait keausan akibat gesekan satu arah dan gesekan dua arah, tetapi hanya sedikit yang mengkaji keausan akibat gesekan banyak arah (multi-directional friction), padahal tidak jarang suatu mekanisme mengakibatkan terjadinya multi-directional contact friction. Penelitian diawali dengan pengambilan secara langsung data volume keausan menggunakan tribometer tipe Pin-on-disk dengan material Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) sebagai pin uji dan Stainless steel sebagai disk. Pada pengujian keausan, masing-masing pin dan disk akan bergerak rotasi dan saling kontak permukaan sehingga tercipta gesekan ke arah yang berubah-ubah pada permukaan material. Secara garis besar penelitian dilakukan dalam 2 macam, yaitu penelitian keausan akibat gesekan tanpa pelumasan (dry sliding) dan dengan pelumasan (wet sliding), dimana masing-masing pengujian diberikan variabel uji yang sama; yaitu pin digesekkan dengan jarak 600 meter, pembebanan statis sebesar 39.2 N, dengan 3 variasi rasio kecepatan antara pin dan disk; yaitu sebesar 6.7, 10.7 dan 16.5. Spesimen yang telah diuji selanjutnya diamati struktur permukaannya menggunakan mikroskop optis dengan perbesaran 100 kali sehingga dapat dianalisa bagaimana mekanisme keausan dari material tersebut, sedangkan data hasil pengujian diolah sehingga diketahui laju keausan (wear rate) dari spesimen uji. Sebagai data pembanding, diambil juga data volume keausan akibat dari gesekan satu arah, yaitu dengan menggerakkan disk secara rotasi sedangkan pin hanya mengalami pembebanan dan tidak bergerak sama sekali. Hasil dari penelitian yang telah dilakukan menyebutkan bahwa gesekan banyak arah (Multi-Directional Friction) akan menghasilkan keausan yang lebih besar dibanding gesekan satu arah (Uni-Directional Friction). Material yang mengalami gesekan banyak arah dengan pembebanan statis sebesar 39.2 N dan dengan kecepatan sesaat yang berubah-ubah mulai dari nol sampai 19.546 m/menit, akan mengalami keausan dengan mekanisme abrasi. Berdasarkan penelitian diketahui juga bahwa adanya pelumas memberi pengaruh yang besar dalam mengurangi keausan.

Two or more objects that moving relative in contact surface will generate friction forces that may causing damage called wear. Until now, have many research related wear as a result by one-directional and two-directional friction, but only a few research related wear as a result by multi-directional friction. Whereas, it is not a few mechanism have multi- directional contact friction. The research begins by taking the wear volume data directly using Pin-on-Disc Tribometer, with the Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) as a test pin and stainless steel as a disc. In wear testing, each pin and the disc will moving rotations and doing surface contact each other so that created friction’s changeable direction on surface of the material. Generally, the research was conducted in two kinds, research of wear due to friction without lubrication (dry sliding) and with lubrication (wet sliding), where each test is given the same test variables, ie pin rubbed with a distance of 600 meters, static loading of 39.2 N, with 3 variations of the speed ratio between the pin and the disk, ie, at 6.7, 10.7 and 16.5. Further, specimens were tested is observed the surface structure using an optical microscope with a magnification of 100 times so it can be analyzed how the mechanism of the material’s wear, while the data is processed so that the test results are known specific wear rate of the test specimen. As comparative data, the wear volume data of the wear as a result by one-directional friction is also taken, namely by moving disk rotation while the pin only have load and does not rotate at all. From the results of the research, we can say that the Multi-Directional Friction will result in greater wear than the Uni-Directional Friction. Friction material to undergo multi- direction with static loading of 39.2 N and the instantaneous velocity varying from zero to 19.546 m/min, will wear with abrasion mechanism. Based on the research note also that the presence of lubricant major influences in reducing wear .
