Abstract

The need for electrical power in Indonesia is increasing from year to year due to economic development and increasing industrial growth. Solar energy is environmentally friendly energy, so it is not surprising that renewable energy is currently being criticized as the energy of the future. Geographically, Indonesia is a country that is positioned right on the equator, which allows for the large energy potential that can be produced from solar power. Solar energy is utilized using a Photovoltaic module which functions to convert solar energy into electrical energy. However, in operation, Photovoltaic modules have big problems, namely related to very low power conversion efficiency. This is because the output power graph of the Photovoltaic module is not linear. To answer this problem, the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) method is used so that the output power remains in maximum condition. To fulfill this method, a DC-DC buck converter is used to reduce the open circuit output voltage from the Photovoltaic module until it reaches maximum power. The buck converter is designed to reduce the voltage according to the duty cycle sent via the microcontroller. In this research, the Fuzzy type 2 algorithm was used to find the duty cycle that produces maximum power. From the tests that have been carried out, the z type fuzzy algorithm provides an accuracy of 97%. The DC-DC buck converter connected to this lamp is capable of providing maximum power in the range of 12.8 W to 36.49 W. The average efficiency produced by this buck converter is 87.58%. From the test results it can also be seen that the buck converter is able to provide maximum power over time with changing irradiation intensity.
