Abstract

The Quality Test Module (QTM) is an essential instrument for measuring the physical data of cigarette products. Physical data involves various parameters such as ventilation and pressure drop. However, the use of QTM for more than five years has shown a decline in accuracy and precision. Recorded data errors have reached 1.62%, with ventilation variation at 6% and pressure drop at 48.6 mmWg. This poses a risk to the validity of both physical and chemical data, including Total Aerosol Residue (TAR) and nicotine content. As a mitigation effort, a comprehensive system update has been implemented, involving training for QTM operators, unit upgrades, periodic calibration, and routine maintenance over a three- month observation period.Observation results indicate a significant improvement, reducing data errors to 0.63%, stabilizing ventilation variation at 4.2%, and controlling pressure drop variation within the range of 35.6 mmWg. This systematic improvement has successfully restored the precision and accuracy of measuring the physical data of cigarette products, contributing positively to the reliability of the generated data. These improvements are expected to enhance the overall precision and accuracy of QTM measurements while assisting in verifying the accuracy of chemical content in cigarettes according to the SNI 01-0765 Year 1999 on White Cigarettes and SNI 0766 Year 2015 on Kretek Cigarettes standards.
