Abstract

This yarn dyeing waste contains BODs, COD and TSS that exceed 10,000 mg/1. Because it is a Home Industry, waste effluent is directly discharged into water bodies by passing through holding ponds only. This is what underlies the emergence of the idea of research using the Kana plant bioreactor. This research aims to determine the ability of the Kana plant bioreactor system to remove COD, BODss and TSS from yarn dyeing waste. The variations used are the addition of aeration and without the addition of aeration. The research was carried out for 30 days using a batch system to make it easier to observe the differences between the two variations. In carrying out the research, the original yarn dyeing waste was diluted first because the concentration was too thick. Based on the results of the Range Finding Test (RFT), the optimum concentration of yarn dyeing waste is 1.5%. At this concentration, the waste characteristics are COD=400 mg!L, BODs= 160 mg/L, and TSS=464 mg/L. Based on the results of this research, the allowance for COD, BOD55o and TSS was obtained. By adding aeration, the Kana bioreactor can increase the ability to reduce organic pollutant content. From the observations, yarn dyeing waste has final characteristics, namely COD value = 80 mg/L with efficiency = 77.5%; ni/ai BOD5=19.6mg/L with efficiency=86.22% and TSS value=61 mg!L with efficiency=84.59%.
