Abstract

Exports significantly contribute to Indonesia's GDP, reaching 23.7% in 2021. However, Indonesia's export growth tends to be stagnant and unstable. Unstable exports can be affected by a lack of market diversification. Therefore, moving the market to non-traditional markets is necessary to reach new opportunities. One of the non-traditional potential markets for Indonesia is Africa. This study aims to identify the African market, the potential of Indonesian commodities to meet the demands of the African market, the position and competitiveness of Indonesian commodities in Africa, and the key success factors of exports to Africa to formulate recommendations for facilities and support for exports to Africa. Analysis using Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) shows that motor vehicles have strong competitiveness in South Africa and Tunisia, but are low in Egypt, Morocco, and Nigeria. Monocarboxylic fatty acids have strong comparative advantage in all of Africa's major importers: South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Egypt, and Nigeria. Soap has strong competitiveness in South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Angola. Analysis using the Export Product Dynamic (EPD) method shows the rising star position of motor vehicles in South Africa and Nigeria, lost opportunity in Egypt, and falling star in Morocco and Tunisia. The industrial monocarboxylic fatty acid EPD shows that Indonesia is in a rising star position in Nigeria, lost opportunity in South Africa and Egypt, and retreat in Kenya and Tanzania. The soap EPD shows that Indonesia is in a rising star position in Angola, lost opportunity in Egypt and South Africa, and retreat in Ethiopia and Tanzania. Based on a survey that has been analyzed using a descriptive analysis method, shows that the key success factors for entering the African market are export insight, market research, intensive marketing, and the availability of trade agreements to reduce export tariffs
