Abstract

Air pollution caused by motor vehicles is a big problem for urban areas, including the City of East Jakarta with the largest number of motorcycles in DKI Jakarta. One of the ways the Indonesian government has taken to reduce the impact of air pollution and accelerate the transition to renewable energy is to encourage the shift towards electric vehicles, including electric motorcycles (EM). This research examines the preference factors for choosing EMs in East Jakarta. Survey results show that most combustion engine motorcycle users in East Jakarta use them for daily activities over relatively short distances. Results of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis show that Cost, Quality of EMs, Policy, and EM Selection Intention have an influence on EM adoption, however results from the Structural Equation Modelling analysis show that Quality of EMs and EM Selection Intention have a significant positive influence on EM adoption, which supports the results of previous research, but Cost, Policy, and socio-economic and travel characteristics do not have a significant influence in this study. Survey results also show that many people do not want to switch to EMs for quality reasons, which supports the results of this research. These findings can serve as the basis for formulating policies and strategies for relevant stakeholders to increase the adoption of electric motorbikes in East Jakarta.
