Abstract

The rising juvenile crime rate in Indonesia has raised concerns about the conditions in juvenile correctional facilities. Many juveniles are detained in unsupportive environments, making it difficult to fulfill their basic needs and personal development. This highlights the importance of redesigning juvenile correctional institutions as places of development that adhere to the principles of Abraham Maslow's humanistic theory, which encourages personal growth through fulfilling basic needs to self-actualization. The method used is evidence-based design, based on a review of relevant literature and case studies. The main theoretical foundation is Abraham Maslow's humanistic theory, which emphasizes the importance of fulfilling basic human needs to achieve optimal personal well being. Biophilic and behavioral approaches are used to create an environment that supports the rehabilitation of juvenile inmates. The concept of "Rehabilitation through Connection" emphasizes the importance of social interaction and open space integration to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of juvenile inmates into society. Therefore, the design aims to increase the effectiveness of rehabilitation and reduce the recidivism rate among juvenile inmates in Indonesia.
