Abstract

To support sustainability, electrification programs in the transport sector have shown rapid growth over the past decade, both globally and in Indonesia. Nevertheless, there is still a major challenge in driving the growth of ownership of electric vehicles and electric motorcycles (EMs) in Indonesia to replace the market share of conventional motorcycles. The research aims to identify psychological, technological, and other internal or external factors that significantly influence public behavior regarding the intention to adopt EM. The study employs a quantitative methodology, conducting questionnaire surveys using random sampling techniques among the public in the Jadetabek area, including Jakarta, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi. The research incorporates an extension of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), as well as analysis based on Structural Equation Modeling – Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). The results of this study indicate that perceived behavioral control, government incentive policies, subjective norms, and attitudes have a positive and significant direct effect on the intention to adopt EM. Meanwhile, perceived technological risk, perceived environmental benefit, perceived environmental consequences, and perceived cost show a substantial and positive indirect influence on adoption intention through the full mediation of the attitude variable. On the other hand, knowledge of EM and perceived value show a positive and significant effect on the intent of adopting EM, either directly or indirectly through partial mediation of the attitude variable. The results of this study can be recommendations for government policy-setting efforts and the formulation of business strategies and consumer engagement programs that support increased EM acquisitions by the public.
