Abstract

Emission rate from equipment at port depends on the activity of the equipment, which is proportional to the throughput and the number of shipcall (Chen et al., 2023). Emission can be reduced by using hydrogen as a low-emission alternative fuel. However, there are still many challenges associated with this approach. The aim of this Final Project is to determine the implementation of hydrogen equipment and facilities and to measure emissions before and after the adoption of hydrogen at port. Benoa was selected because it is being developed as a cruise ship hub port through the Bali Maritime Hub (BMTH) project. Hydrogen evaluated are of green and blue types for harbour mobile crane (HMC), reach stacker, truck, forklift, tug and pilot boats at cargo terminal. The scenarios used are combinations of two types of hydrogen with diesel and fully hydrogen. The methods used are Cost Saving Analysis (CSA), Net Present Value (NPV), Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR), and Payback Period. A sensitivity analysis, considering the growth rate of cargo throughput and the price of hydrogen, was conducted to provide recommendations on the type of hydrogen to be used, the implementation scenario, and the appropriate equipment. The use of fully blue hydrogen on HMC and trucks at the multipurpose terminal is recommended as it gives NPV of IDR 131 billion, the highest BCR (1.6), and a Payback Period of 18.72 years, under conditions of a 30% growth rate and a 25% decrease in hydrogen prices. At the multipurpose terminal, blue and green hydrogen have the potential to reduce emissions by up to 96% and 100%, respectively. However, the use of hydrogen at the overall cargo terminal only results in emission reduction by 3.40% for blue hydrogen and 3.53% for green hydrogen.
