Abstract

The increasing population and industrial growth in Indonesia are positively correlated with the increase in wastewater. In addition, the types of waste are increasingly diverse so the processing there are many obstacles. In overcoming this, Advanced Oxidation Process Methods (AOPs) have begun to be developed because it has several advantages over other methods, however, the literature needs further research. Therefore, a study about the system and principles as well as pollutant efficiency in the application of AOPs in wastewater treatment in Indonesia is needed to be discussed. So that this study can contribute literature that discusses the application of the AOPs method and the application of the AOPs method in Indonesia. This literature study is carried out by conducting a literature review from various sources, of scientific sources related to the application of the AOPs method in wastewater treatment in Indonesia. Then, primary and secondary data were collected from two places with different types of sectors as case studies. Then analysis and discussion are carried out based on the literature reviewed and case study data obtained. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the AOPs system implemented in Indonesia included sonochemical, fenton, peroxymonosulfate/Katalis, UV/H2O2, UV/H2O2/TiO2, O3/ H2O2, O3/GAC, UV/Fenton/Katalis, fotofenton, and elektronfenton. The system can be used to treat various industrial waste and domestic waste. The principle of the system is the same, that is producing free radicals which function to degrade contaminants. However, what makes the difference is the method of producing these free radicals. The pollutant reduction efficiency of the AOPs system varies depending on the type of AOP system used and other factors such as pH conditions, reaction time, hydrogen peroxide concentration, Fe reagent concentration, PMS concentration, air flow variation, ozone feeding rate, GAC dose, H2O2:FeSO4 molar ratio, catalyst dose, electric voltage, electrode distance and H2O2/COD ratio. The AOPs system applied at RSUD Banyumas is the O3/UV system coupled with honeycomb media with an efficiency of removing pollutants of BOD 41.67%; COD 33.3%; TSS 26.67%; Oils and fats 37.5% and Total Coliform 79.17%, meanwhile, the AOPs system applied at TPA Benowo is the O3/UV/H2O2 system with nanofilter with a pollutant removal efficiency of BOD 94,63%; COD 94,68%; TSS 95,24%; N-Total 96,71% and Mercury 46,15%.
