Abstract

The maritime industry uses strong metallic materials hence required in offshore structural applications. One example of the material is ASTM A36 steel. ASTM A36 steel is widely used in offshore structures due to its strength and resistance to loads, but the nature of this metal material is susceptible to fatigue due to the offshore environment. This research aims to analyze the variation of heat input and groove angle on the tensile strength and metallographic structure of ASTM A36 steel material. This test will be conducted with heat input variations of low (90A), medium (120A), and high (160A) electric current limitation combined with generic (60°), wide (75°), and experimental (90°) angle variations on the welding seam. Upon these variations, tensile strength tests and metallographic structure tests will be carried out. The results of this research are to provide a deeper understanding of the optimization of welding techniques on steel structures in the maritime environment, so as to increase efficiency in the application of offshore structures both in the world of academic institutions and field observations.
