Abstract

Order Picking (OP) contributes significantly to the total operational costs of a warehouse, making its efficiency a crucial factor. One aspect that affects this process is the material storage layout, where inefficient placement can extend Order Picking time and reduce productivity. Jasa Pelayanan Pabrik Department of PT Pupuk Kujang currently implements a random storage policy. However, this approach is less suitable because the department lacks an appropriate Warehouse Management System (WMS) to record material locations and stock quantities. As a result, the material search and retrieval process become inefficient. To address this issue, this final project optimizes material placement by applying FSN (Fast, Slow, Non-moving) analysis based on Average Stay and Consumption Rate. Then, materials are further classified based on their type to establish a more structured storage allocation. Furthermore, Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) is applied to design a storage strategy that minimizes order picking time, which leads to improving warehouse operational efficiency. The optimization process begins with zoning, which involves assigning material type groups to specific racks. This is followed by slotting, in which individual SKUs within each material group are assigned to specific rack slots. The optimization results show a 29,75% reduction in total material picking time. This efficiency also opens up opportunities for more flexible pricing strategies.
