Abstract

Context: The growing population in Indonesia has led to an increased reliance on private vehicles as a mobility solution. To minimize private vehicle use, Application-Based Feeder Transport (AFT) services has been implemented as viable alternative. Problem: Despite its strategic role, AFT adoption remains limited and understanding of factors influencing acceptance is insufficient, which may hinder service development of feature favored by users. Objective: This study aims to develop a comprehensive adoption model for AFT services by integrating the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2), perceived risk, and environmental awareness to investigate determinants of behavioral intention. The study also seeks to provide evidence-based recommendations to service providers to help sustain the presence of AFT. Data and Methods: An online survey of Indonesian citizens aged ≥18 (Comprised of 32 items across 10 AFT aspects) was conducted to gather the data. The survey was conducted from 24 July to 2 August 2025, yielding 210 valid responses. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to examine relationships among constructs. Results: The findings indicate that behavioral intention (BI) is significantly and positively influenced by perceived usefulness (PU), social influence (SI), habit (HB), and environmental awareness (EA). The construct PU is significantly and positively influenced by perceived ease of use (PEU) and SI, and negatively influenced by perceived risk (PR). In addition, SI exerts a strong negative effect on PR and strong positive effects on PEU and PU. Research Contribution: his study develops a comprehensive theoretical framework of determinants for AFT adoption and extends research on technology adoption in the community. The findings offer actionable insights for AFT service providers regarding the determinants of usage intention, and the proposed model can serve as a foundation for future research.
