Abstract

In the drainage system planning, runoff coefficients are determined based on land use types without considering the soil types of the drainage area. The difference in soil types and land use patterns affect the value of runoff coefficients. This research is conducted to obtain the correlation between the difference in soil types and land use patterns to the value of runoff coefficients. A rainfall simulator is set for the intensity of 87.88 mm/hr and 116.71 mm/hr. The types of soil used in the research are alluvium and grumosol. The land use coverage used in this research are (1) 100% open, (2) 30% open and 70% closed, and (3) 20% open and 80% closed. Runoff coefficients are calculated by using the Windex and ASCE methods. The results show that the soil types influence the value of runoff coefficients. When the intensity of rainfall is 87.88 mm/hr on a 100% open space, the runoff coefficients are 0.081 and 0.106 for alluvium and grumosol soils, respectively. However, when the intensity of rainfall is 116.71 mm/hr on a 100% open space, the runoff coefficients are 0.089 and 0.109 for alluvium and grumosol soils, respectively. When the land use coverage changed into 30% open and 70% closed, with the intensity of rainfall is 87.88 mm/hr, the runoff coefficients are 0.099 and 0.117 for alluvium and grumosol soils, respectively. When the intensity of rainfall is 116.71 mm/hr on 30% open and 70% closed, the runoff coefficients are 0.100 and 0.121 for alluvium and grumosol soils, respectively. And when the land use coverage changed into 20% open and 80% closed, with the intensity of rainfall is 87.88 mm/hr, the value of runoff coefficients are 0.104 and 0.128 for alluvium and grumosol soils, respectively. When the intensity of rainfall is 116.71 mm/hr on 20% open and 80% closed, the runoff coefficients are 0.109 and 0.130 for alluvium and grumosol soils, respectively.
