Abstract
Hasil pembakaran dari motor diesel salah satunya berupa NOx yang dapat menyebabkan polusi pada udara. Sebagian peneliti telah menemukan alat sederhana yang digunakan untuk mereduksi NOx. Alat sederhana tersebut ialah Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) yang dapat mereduksi NOx dengan cara mensirkulasikan kembali sebagian dari gas buang ke dalam ruang bakar. Sistem EGR saat ini sering disebut dengan istilah hot EGR dimana proses sirkulasi gas buang tanpa sistem pendinginan. Setelah sistem hot EGR dirancang dengan penambahan cooling system dengan jenis berpendinginan udara maka gas buang yang digunakan kembali akan didinginkan terlebih dahulu sehingga massa dari udara akan meningkat. Penilitian ini bertujuan untuk studi analsis terhadap performa motor, proses pembakaran, dan penurunan kandungan NOx pada sistem EGR setelah penambahan pendinginan udara. Eksperimen ini dilakukan pada motor diesel Yanmar TF 85-MHDI. Hasil dari emisi menurut uji statistik bahwa motor diesel yang telah dimodifikasi dengan sistem hot dan cold EGR mampu berada dalam ambang batas uji emisi TIER 2 dengan bukaan katup EGR 20% dan 30% dengan beban 25%, 50%, dan 75%. Sedangkan untuk beban 100% pada bukaan katup EGR 20% dan 30% motor diesel mampu masuk dalam ambang batas emisi TIER 3. Dari segi performa nilai SFOC mampu diperbaiki pada kondisi 10% cold EGR dengan penurunan sebesar 14,62% dan hasil untuk combustion process peak pressure pada motor diesel menjadi rendah namun rate of heat relase (ROHR) mengalami penurunan.

The combustion process of a diesel engine that produces NOX cause air pollution. Some researchers have found a system that can reduce NOx content. One such system is the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system is the most simple NOx reduction by means of circulating a portion of exhaust gas return into the combustion chamber. EGR system is often better known by the name the hot EGR where exhaust gas circulation process without cooling system. Hot EGR system is designed by the addition of cooling system with air-cooled type. So that the circulating of exhaust gas to be cooled in advance in such that the mass of air increases. This research aims to study the performance, the combustion process, and a reduction in NOX of diesel engine with EGR using addition of air cooling system. The experiments were used on diesel engine Yanmar TF 85-MHDI. The result show the emissions of diesel engines which have been modified with cold EGR system is able to be in the thresholds in the TIER 2 emissions standard on the EGR valve opening are 20% and 30% with load of 25%, 50%, and 75%. As for the only 100% load on the EGR valve opening are 20% and 30% of diesel engines able to enter the emission limits TIER 3. As for the performance of the SFOC able to be fixed at 10% cold conditions EGR with a decrease of 14.62% and the results for peak pressure of the combustion process in diesel engine to be low, however the rate of heat release (ROHR) decreased.
